Missouri State football lands Jalen Brooks, a former North Carolina LB, in transfer portal

Linebacker help is on the way for Missouri State football.

The Bears landed the commitment from Campbell transfer Jalen Brooks, who made the announcement on Tuesday night on social media. He began his career with four seasons at North Carolina and has one season of eligibility remaining.

Brooks had 118 total tackles with 55 solo, four sacks, three fumble recoveries and an interception last season. He’s listed as a 5-foot-11, 230-pounder and a three-star prospect in the 247Sports transfer rankings. He was a second-team All-Coastal Athletic Association selection and set the school’s single-season tackles record.

Brooks should make an immediate impact for a linebackers group that has been rocked by the transfer portal this offseason. The Bears lost three starters, including Michael Teason, Tahj Chambers (Ole Miss) and Dallas Winner-Johnson (Tulane) to the portal. Teason visited and received an offer from Texas A&M on Tuesday.

Missouri State will continue to explore the portal for additional linebackers. The team returns contributors Jared Lloyd, Jashawn Cooper and Kanye Young, among others.
