Kayla Kowalik was the best hitter in the AUSL All-Star Cup and, in the end, took home the crown. Kowalik joins outfielder Amanda Lorenz (2024), pitcher Odicci Alexander-Bennett (2023), catcher Dejah Mulipola (2022), pitcher Aleshia Ocasio (2021) and pitcher Cat Osterman (2020) as champions of the AUSL All-Star Cup, which was previously referred to as the AU Pro Softball Championship

“There are so many talented, competitive women, and for me to be able to make a breakthrough and standout on top is really, really powerful,” Kowalik said. “I’ve worked very hard and the off-season was really long. I’m very grateful the hard work has paid off.”

Team Coffel 7, Team Kowalik 4

Team Coffel came out firing. After Alana Vawter recorded the first out for Team Kowalik, the next four batters for Team Coffel reached. Sierra Romero and Morgan Zerkle drove in runs before the second out. Tiare Jennings had a two-out double to cap off the four-run inning.

The second inning was more of the same. Erin Coffel had an RBI single after a wild pitch brought home the first run of the inning. Zerkle collected another RBI.

Kayla Kowalik led off the fourth with a single. She’d score on a Baylee Klingler single to earn the inning win. They won the fifth inning as well after Sierra Sacco drove in a run on a two-out single. Sacco drove in another run in the seventh, but it was too little, too late.

Despite the loss, Kowalik established enough of a lead to earn the championshp.

Team Ricketts 3, Team Garcia 1

Aubrey Leach spoiled Rachel Garcia’s chance at the AUSL All-Star Cup title. The former Tennessee star lifted a two-out, three-run blast against Garcia to give Team Ricketts the lead for good in the third. Leach’s first home run of the AUSL All-Star Cup proved to help Kayla Kowalik.

Georgina Corrick had plenty of influence on the leaderboard as well. Keilani Ricketts called upon Corrick in the third inning after she started the game. Corrick was lights out. She retired the first 13 batters she faced, collecting eight strikeouts along the way. Taylor Edwards ended the streak with a two-out double in the seventh in her final professional at-bat. Corrick and Team Ricketts were able to close the win.

Team Garcia struggled to score aside from Jessie Warren’s solo home run. Garcia’s lone mistake ended up being the difference. She pitched a complete game, allowing three runs on six hits and striking out 10 batters.
