Michigan State football opened the 2025 season with a relatively impressive victory over in-state foe Western Michigan.
The Spartans dominated the first half, and carried a three-touchdown lead into a 23-6 victory over the Broncos. Michigan State struggled in the second half — or potentially was content with running out the clock and moving on to next week — but a stout defensive effort kept the game in hand throughout.
The win over the Broncos moves the Spartans to 1-0 on the year and keeps them on the right path for reaching bowl eligibility this fall. Michigan State will host Boston College next week in a marquee non-conference matchup that’ll have a ton of significance on where the Spartans land this season.

Brandon Tullis touchdown run in 1st Quarter
Tullis got the scoring going for the Spartans with a 12-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Michigan State led 7-0 after the Tullis touchdown and extra point.

Nick Marsh touchdown reception in 1st Quarter
Marsh added to the Spartans lead with a seven-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter. Michigan State led 14-0 after the Marsh touchdown and extra point.

Makhi Frazier touchdown run in 2nd Quarter
Frazier found the endzone in the second quarter to push the Spartans’ lead to three scores. Michigan State led 21-0 after the Frazier touchdown and extra point.

Jalen Thompson tackle for safety in 3rd Quarter
Thompson was able to help stuff the run for a Spartans safety for two points. Michigan State led 23-0 after the safety by the Spartans defense.
