We can say, without hyperbole that this is the biggest season opener of all-time. Of course, it all comes with a caveat, as the most meaningful game of week one, just doesn’t matter as much at the end of the year. It’s especially true in this era of the expanded College Football Playoff.
But come Saturday, this game will be bigger than life itself. It’s a game that abounds with NFL Draft prospects, on both teams. We covered Ohio State already, over at this link. The Eyes of Texas will certainly be on these Longhorns players this weekend
Quarterback Arch Manning
It’s hard to really articulate just how hyped up this young man is. Perhaps Katy Perry in 2014, the year she performed the Super Bowl halftime show and her singles off the “Teenage Dream” album were charting endlessly. Perry reached a status that very few people do: “inescapable.”
If you watch follow football, Arch Manning is exactly that. Many believe he’ll be the first overall pick, but there are plenty of other people out there who think he’ll be in the 5-10 range. There is a lot of variability around his stock due to the fact that no one knows if he’ll come out this year, or wait until next.
Linebacker Anthony Hill Jr.
Like Manning, he came to Austin as a highly heralded 5-star recruit. Hill is a pure middle-of-the-park kind of player on defense, who can beat you with both his size and his speed. He has the ferocity of a middle linebacker and the quickness of a free safety. Hill should be the first inside linebacker off the boards come April.
Cornerback Malik Muhammad
He should be the first CB off the board, due to his exceptional versatility. He can play on the outside as a corner, or in nickel packages. You can also utilize him, provided the coverage scheme, at either safety position. He’s like a cornerback version of Kyle Hamilton, in that he’s a true “Swiss Army Knife” of a player.
