The Wisconsin Badgers kicked off their season with a victory on Thursday night, shutting out the Miami (OH) Redhawks 17-0 in a dominant defensive performance.
The main headline was the loss of quarterback Billy Edwards Jr., who left the game in the first half after a non-contact injury and did not return, although he was seen in street clothes on the sidelines in the second half.
But, Wisconsin pitched a shutout with a dominant defensive performance, limiting Miami (OH) to 117 total yards while collapsing the pocket all night long.
With Edwards out due to injury, sophomore Danny O’Neil saw extended snaps, playing through some ups and downs as he threw for 120 yards, a touchdown, and an interception in the win.
After the game, head coach Luke Fickell spoke with reporters, pointing to the team’s dominant performance defensively, while acknowledging that there was no current update on Edwards.
