Emmett Mosley injury update: Steve Sarkisian reveals latest on Texas WR

Heading into the Week 1 matchup against Ohio State, there is a wide receiver injury Texas has been dealing with. Stanford transfer Emmett Mosley has been “limited,” according to head coach Steve Sarkisian. A player brought in to produce, the Longhorns have been missing him throughout fall camp.

“He’s been limited,” Sarkisian said. “Which, I think we would all like for him to have been going the whole time with us right now. He’s a very good football player, a guy who had an immense amount of production in only nine games at Stanford a year ago.”

Mosley caught 48 passes in 2024, going for 525 yards and six touchdowns. As Sarkisian mentioned, those numbers are in just nine games played due to missed time at the beginning of the season. One performance, in particular, stands out. Nov. 16 against Louisville saw Mosley catch 13 passes for 168 yards and three touchdowns.

If an injury is going to keep Mosley out, or limited, to start 2025, Texas will be hoping for similar results. Sarkisian even compared the situation to Matthew Golden from last year. Maybe overlooked in the head coach’s eyes early on, Golden soon turned into the team’s wide receiver. A few months later, the Green Bay Packers took him in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Sarkisian believes Mosley is going to grow into his role as the weeks go by. After all, settling in as a transfer can take some time.

“I think, for him, the growth is going to be as the season continues to go. I always think back to Matt Golden last year where, going into the season, I don’t think I even fielded a question about him before the first couple of games. By the end of the year, he was the topic of discussion. His evolution as the season goes on is going to be really important as he gets more and more comfortable with us.”

Arch Manning will still have plenty of weapons available to him come Saturday. Ryan Wingo is the biggest name of them all after a solid true freshman season. Texas is hoping a sophomore leap is coming for Wingo, joining some of the other big-name wide receivers in his recruiting class.

Eventually, Mosley will get back out there to become a key part of the rotation. For now, an injury is keeping him from fully participating.
