After months of anticipation, the Texas Longhorns will open their 2025 campaign against Ohio State this weekend. As they prepare to take on the defending champs, Steve Sarkisian and his coaching staff got good news on the recruiting front. Five-star recruit Ahmad Hudson revealed the eight schools that currently stand out to him, and Texas made the cut.
Currently, the Longhorns’ competition includes LSU, Nebraska, Alabama, Ole Miss, Florida, Texas A&M, and Oregon. Any of those programs would get a huge offensive boost from having Hudson in their lineup. The fact that has drawn interest from some of the top programs in the nation comes as no surprise.
Following a breakout 2024 campaign, the Ruston High School product is ranked as the top tight end in the 2027 class by 247Sports. They also rank Hudson as the 16th-best prospect in the nation. That is partly why he has been a popular option for programs looking to improve their tight end room.

As the Ruston reached the Louisiana Division I Non-Select title game last year, Hudson was a human highlight reel. He finished his sophomore campaign with 41 receptions for 718 yards and 6 TD. The talented tight end added to his trophy case with All-Ruston Daily Leader Newcomer of the Year honors.
With no decision date set, the Longhorns still have to make their pitch to Hudson. They have excelled in developing tight ends, with their latest success story being Hunter Helm, who was drafted by the Tennessee Titans a few months ago. That could help them in their pursuit of Hudson as he looks to land with a program that will maximize his skill set.
Over the next few months, Texas will be a program to watch as they look to build another elite recruiting class, starting with Hudson leading the way on offense.
