Last week, Nebraska’sMatt Rhule announced a new podcast he’ll be hosting titled as ‘House Rhules’. He has since gone into the decision as to why he felt it was important for him to try and do in this day and age as the head coach of the ‘Huskers.
Speaking with the media to end the week, Rhule said it was his idea to put out the podcast. He did note they meant to put it out earlier, though, with the Cornhuskers’ season set to start this week on Thursday.
“It was my idea,” Rhule said. “You know, I do a lot of podcasts. People ask me and I’m happy to do them. And, as I started thinking about it, I’m like, well, why aren’t we doing one?”
“You know, my goal was to have it kind of in the offseason, kind of leading into the season. It just took a lot to get it going because, obviously, we wanted to do it right,” added Rhule. “And so, it’s kind of delved into the season.”
As Rhule put it, the thought behind it is to bring more attention to their university and football program in Lincoln. His hope is that it can showcase their players, as well as recruits in the future, in a way that can help them have a chance to earn some value for themselves, like in name, image, and likeness.
“This is the new world of college sports. It’s like, you know – one of my goals is to be able to do stuff with our players and hope that we can get them some NIL money from doing an interview with us…But, you know, to be able to have it be Husker centric but still touch on other topics? Hopefully, you know, we can just continue to put the University of Nebraska and our football program out there for people to see,” said Rhule. “And, I think, for recruits, you know – I think I said this to you guys before. If you have not gone to that second floor, you have got to go walk through it. Recruits – our ability to help you build your brand? I mean, content, you know, these things are really important to this generation of guys and they’re really good at it.”
Football is priority number one for Rhule, saying he can cancel it if the podcast isn’t accomplishing what they’re intending it too. Still, for one hour a week for now, Rhule thinks ‘House Rhules’ could be really worth it for them all at Nebraska.
“We just think it’s, you know, an opportunity for us to go out there and, you know, do some stuff. I already do a bunch of media stuff anyway during the week. Sometimes, people don’t even see. So, we just have to schedule out. You know, we did a lot of stuff ahead of time. I have to schedule out probably an extra hour of the day now one day a week to make sure we do this at a high level. You know, I think you’ll see me doing some regular mainstream media hits also,” said Rhule. “And, again, we have to win on the field. We all get that, right. Like, you have to be relevant on the field. But…having us out there is really, really important. Having us out there for recruits is really important.”
“So, yeah, that was kind of the thought. Like, hey, let’s go out there and do that, you know, and hopefully get some interesting guests and just do it year-round,” Rhule said. “So, we’ll do it until – you know, if no one watches it, then we’ll cancel it. But, if people watch it, then we’ll do it and I’ll do the best I can with it.”
Rhule announces launch of ‘House Rhules Podcast’
On Thursday this week, Rhule announced his podcast titled ‘House Rhules’. He did so with the release of its debut episode that morning
“I know what you’re thinking – why are we doing this? Why are we taking the time to give an inside look to each and every one of you to all the great things happening here at the University of Nebraska? Man, we’re so proud of what we’re doing with our players, what we’re doing with this program and we want to give you an inside look behind the scenes, behind the curtain at a college football program. We want to talk about all the things that matter to you – college football, pop culture, young people,” Rhule said in his introduction. “You know, I’ve been hired and fired in my life. I’ve been through a lot of things.
“And, one thing I know is I’m not afraid to speak the truth, be authentic, and just be who I am. I’m Matt Rhule, and this is House Rhules.”
‘House Rhules’ dropped this week on YouTube, with Rhule hosting alongside his co-host, Anthony Gargano. It features conversations with LB Javin Wright, as well as with Jon Gordon. It has also since been shared with social media pages on Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter.
