As the Dallas Cowboys prepare for the 2025 season, they will be welcoming some new faces to the mix. That list includes former Longhorn Jaydon Blue, who is expected to be a key piece of the offense. On Friday, he flashed his potential in the Cowboys’ preseason finale against the Atlanta Falcons.
In the Cowboys’ win, Blue recorded 25 yards in his preseason debut. While finishing second on the team in carries, Blue averaged 2.8 yards per carry. The only other Cowboys player who saw more action out of the backfield was Deuce Vaughn, who finished with ten carries. However, Blue, unlike Vaughn, was able to find the end zone once.

After an impressive run at Texas, Blue was selected by the Cowboys in the fifth round of the NFL Draft just a few months ago. The Houston native became a popular prospect after the most productive season of his college career. During the 2024 campaign, he set career highs in rushing yards with 730 and rushing touchdowns with eight.
While Blue provided the Longhorns offense with a spark on the ground, he also made a difference in the passing game. The Klein Cain High School product hauled in 42 passes for 368 yards while averaging 8.8 yards per catch. The Cowboys hope that Blue can replicate that success at the pro level.

With the start of the regular season less than two weeks away, Blue is currently listed third on the Cowboys’ depth chart. However, if he meets expectations, his ranking could look very different by the end of the season. On an offense full of talent, Blue has the potential to be a star.
Although the expectations are high for Blue, he could be limited early on. ESPN NFL Reporter Jeremy Fowler reported on Sunday morning that Blue suffered a low ankle sprain against the Falcons but is hopeful to start Week 1. Even if his regular-season debut is delayed, many in Dallas are excited to see what Blue will accomplish in a Cowboys uniform.
