Report: New York Jets among several teams monitoring WR trade market

The New York Jets have one game left on their preseason slate, but they are hoping that they can end the exhibition slate on a good note. New York’s passing game has not looked good thus far in the preseason with Justin Fields at the quarterback spot and it seems that the team is trying to do something about it while there’s still time to make tweaks to the offense.

Per The Athletic’s Dianna Russini on Wednesday, the Jets “are among several teams monitoring the trade market for potential wide receiver additions.” Within her report, Russini noted that the San Francisco 49ers and Minnesota Vikings are “making calls.” While there are still wide receivers such as Amari Cooper and Odell Beckham Jr. available in free-agency, there aren’t many notable wide-receivers on the trade market.

New York enters the 2025 NFL season with star Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard, and Josh Reynolds as the three starting wide receivers in the lineup. While Wilson had a solid 2024 campaign with his 1,104 receiving yards and seven touchdowns, Lazard had 530 yards (six touchdowns) and Reynolds had just 194 yards (one touchdown) last season.

Throughout the summer, it seems that the player that could have been had via trade was Washington Commanders receiver Terry McLaurin as he seeks the contract extension that he desires. However, Russini recently reported (h/t to Bleacher Report’s Andrew Peters) that the Commanders are not making McLaurin for a trade as they are trying to work out a deal with him so he seems to be out of the running to help the Jets.

There is a possibility that New York could target 49ers receiver Brandon Aiyuk as ESPN’s Nick Wagoner wrote that “Aiyuk is expected to return from his knee injury at some point this season, and his future in San Francisco will likely be determined by how it goes from there.” The Jets are among several teams looking for wide receiver help this late in the preseason, but it seems that the pickings are slim.
