3 Steelers on the bubble ahead of mandatory 53-man roster cuts

The Pittsburgh Steelers are required to submit their 53-man roster on August 26 — forcing several unfortunate roster cuts, including talented young and veteran players alike.

Here are three Steelers on the roster bubble ahead of these cuts — where the likelihood of their chances to make the roster could come down to a coin flip.

CB Beanie Bishop

Despite a strong rookie season in 2024, Bishop appears to be on the outside looking in just days away from the final roster cuts. Rumors began to swirl after DC Teryl Austin declared the preseason finale would be an important game for Bishop, but he didn’t play a snap — leading many to believe his Steelers days are numbered.

WR Robert Woods

Despite signing with Pittsburgh this offseason, Woods appears to lack as many selling points as the other Steelers wide receivers. DK Metcalf, Calvin Austin III, and Roman Wilson are roster locks, Ben Skowronek offers a solid presence on special teams, and Scotty Miller has looked amazing in the preseason — leaving Woods as the likely odd man out.

CB Cory Trice Jr.

Another Steelers cornerback makes our roster bubble list — but it has little to do with talent and everything to do with availability. Trice’s injuries were concerning before his recent hamstring setback — which couldn’t have come at a worse time. Despite his potential to become a future starter with Pittsburgh, the newly retooled cornerback room leaves little room for availability concerns.
