Rafael Fiziev: Charles Oliveira 'still dangerous' despite knockout loss to Ilia Topuria

Rafael Fiziev doesn’t expect Charles Oliveira’s UFC 317 knockout loss to impact his performance.

Fiziev (13-4 MMA, 7-4 UFC) takes on former lightweight champion Oliveira (35-11 MMA, 23-11 UFC) in the UFC Fight Night 261 headliner on Oct. 11 in Rio de Janeiro. The event takes place at Farmasi Arena and streams on ESPN+.

Oliveira will be making a less than four-month turnaround after getting knocked out by Ilia Topuria in June. Contrary to most, Fiziev doesn’t see it as a problem.

“I think it’s OK – he has big experience,” Fiziev told Home of Fight of Oliveira. “Medicine in the world right now on a high level also. He put some drops, some IV, for sure he heal up, and he’s getting ready. …(It’s) still a dangerous fight. He’s still dangerous. This knockout does not change anything for my fight with him.”

Fiziev isn’t sure if the clean knockout loss to Topuria will have deteriorated Oliveira’s chin, but he plans on putting that theory to the test. Oliveira was dropped in his recent fights against Michael Chandler, Dustin Poirier, and Justin Gaethje, but not put out like that in over 10 years.

“I’m not a boxer. I’m a kickboxer. My punches are also hard, but if I touch him good, for sure I can knock him out, also,” Fiziev said. “Many people say after a knockout, you’re not the same – the chin is not the same. Everybody says that, but I don’t know if it’s true or not. Many people who start to lose by knockout, they just get old. I don’t know if it’s true or not. We’ll check it.”
