The 2025 NFL draft is just over a week away, and all 32 NFL teams are finalizing their draft boards.
Mock drafts are surfacing in abundance as April 24 draws nearer, including ESPN’s Mel Kiper and Field Yates’ three-round mock released on Tuesday. The New York Giants have four picks in the first three rounds, and Kiper and Yates think they’ll split those picks evenly between offense and defense.
3. New York GiantsYates’ pick: Abdul Carter, Edge, Penn State
The second-rated player on my board is just too good for the Giants to bypass, even with the QB concerns. They can wait until Day 2 to address that, especially if they aren’t sold on Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders. The Giants already have a quality edge rush group, but it’d become that much nastier with the addition of Carter, who had 12 sacks in 2024.
Abdul Carter has the ability to bolster any defense he becomes part of, and he’d be a welcome addition in New York.
In the second round, Kiper has the Giants switching to the other side of the ball.
34. New York GiantsKiper’s pick: Tyler Shough, QB, Louisville
After going another direction in the first round, the Giants can land an experienced passer with good arm strength. Shough threw 29 touchdown passes last season, and he’d have the opportunity to learn alongside Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston.
Kiper isn’t the first to suggest that the Giants select a quarterback on Day 2. Others have suggested Jaxson Dart, Jalen Milroe, or Riley Leonard. Any one of whom would benefit from spending a year with Wilson and Winston.
In the third round, Yates selects Tate Ratledge, a guard out of Georgia with the 65th pick, and at 99 has the Giants selecting defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott from Tennessee.
On Ratledge, Yates’ reasoning is on improving the Giants’ offensive line to protect whoever is playing quarterback and cites Ratledge’s “really impressive footwork and toughness.”
As for the 99th pick, Norman-Lott is a depth selection. Dexter Lawrence II is a menacing interior presence on his own, but there aren’t any meaningful options behind him. Norman-Lott recorded 9.5 sacks in the last two seasons and has the ability to fill in if needed.
The Giants have a lot of work to do this offseason, most of which has already started. When the draft is over, that’s when teams begin to settle into the personnel they have on their roster. More moves can be made, and some will, but as teams settle in and begin workouts, that’s when the real work begins.
