The Bucs are already battling the injury bug early on in training camp after being bitten by it time and again during the 2024 season. Several big-name playmakers are still fighting their way back from injury from last season, like Chris Godwin Jr., while others like Antoine Winfield Jr. and Calijah Kancey look to find their old selves.
Fast forward to Friday at training camp, quarterback Baker Mayfield is now missing sessions after suffering a hand injury on Thursday.
According to NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero, Mayfield hit his hand off a defender on Thursday. As a result, Todd Bowles sat him out on Friday, but he is just considered day-to-day. In his absence, backup Kyle Trask took over first-team reps, and the only other healthy quarterback on the depth chart is rookie Connor Bazelak.
Todd Bowles spoke to the media on Friday morning and was asked about the prospect of the team adding another quarterback in the absence of Mayfield and Michael Pratt. He responded with, “Yeah, we’re working on that.”
