Monaco’s Paul Pogba makes next step on path to long-awaited return

At his presentation at the start of July, Paul Pogba (32) said that his return would “be in stages”. He is now in a new stage in his highly anticipated return to professional football.

Pogba completed his move to AS Monaco at the end of June, signing a two-year deal with the Principality club. The Frenchman has not played a professional game since September 2023 and, whilst he is building towards a return, it may yet be several weeks before we see him on the pitch. The club’s CEO Thiago Scuro said that a three-month time scale has been put on his return, meaning that we could see Pogba at the end of September/ early October.

The former Manchester United and Juventus midfielder is still training individually, rather than with the team, however, he is progressing. As images from Monaco’s social media accounts show, Pogba is now training with a ball at his feet for the first time since his arrival. It is a small step, but certainly not an insignificant one, as he builds his fitness ahead of a return.
