New England Patriots rookie center/guard Jared Wilson has impressed his teammates during the first week of training camp, most notably second-year offensive lineman Caedan Wallace.
Wilson has stood out immediately on the practice field with one-on-one wins against both of the Patriots’ top defensive tackles, Christian Barmore and Milton Williams. He was even seen taking top team reps over former first-round pick Cole Strange at left guard on Wednesday.
It’s unusual to see a rookie hit the ground running as quickly and as impressively as Wilson has in only his first week of training camp.
“Jared’s a great athlete, and he plays all three (positions) in the middle,” Wallace said, via Boston Herald’s Zack Cox. “He knows everything. … Jared’s really, really (expletive) good, so I love asking him questions. He always has a different perspective from the vet guys in the room.”
Wallace was drafted as a tackle out of college, but he has been working at left guard at training camp. That has given him an up-close look at Wilson’s sudden rise up the depth chart.
It would be a massive win for the Patriots if both rookies, Wilson and left tackle Will Campbell, make a significant impact in 2025.
