3 Buccaneers rookies are showcasing themselves at training camp

As training camp rounds into its first week, Tampa’s offensive line depth is taking a youthful turn.

In practice sessions so far, three undrafted rookies, Ben Scott, Jake Majors, and Ben Chukwuma, have made up the core of the second-string offensive front behind the established starters. After locking in 2024 first-round center Graham Barton, along with veterans Ben Bredeson, Cody Mauch, and Luke Goedeke, the Bucs appear intent on developing offensive linemen depth from within.

All three rookies have worked regularly with the second unit, suggesting the coaching staff sees real promise in their roles as backup center, guard, and tackle.

Ben Scott, a versatile interior lineman out of Nebraska, has taken regular reps at both guard and center. The team guaranteed a modest portion of his UDFA deal, underscoring their interest in his frame, agility, and snapping ability. Jake Majors from Texas has also rotated heavily at center in second-team segments. Reports indicated he earned the bulk of backup reps behind Barton, hinting that he’s emerged as the primary emergency backup center, even in early camp.

Ben Chukwuma, a rookie tackle from Georgia State, has seen consistent second-unit action in tackle slides and position drills. At 6-foot-6 with long arms, his raw size and developmental upside have marked him as someone the Bucs believe could compete for depth roles.

The importance of this rookie trio extends beyond camp as they offer insurance in a position group where injuries can quickly derail a season.

With Tristan Wirfs set to miss early snaps and Charlie Heck serving as swing tackle depth, developing in-house continuity is now a priority. If even one of these young linemen proves capable in walk-throughs and team reps, they could earn a roster spot. Scott’s ability to play inside at multiple positions, Majors’s grasp of center responsibilities, and Chukwuma’s potential at tackle give the coaching staff flexible options as preseason wears on.
