A Lakers get to Sunday; Red Sox in West A final

Jul. 27—WHITEFISH — Mason Lewis threw five no-hit innings and the Kalispell Lakers punched their ticket to Sunday’s loser’s bracket semifinal with a 10-0 win over the Libby Loggers at the Western A District Legion baseball tournament Saturday at Memorial Field.

The Lakers and Loggers both nabbed wins in the early games to set up their evening matchup. Libby cruised past Cranbrook 16-2, while Kalispell downed Missoula 4-2.

In the 2-0 matchup, the Bitterroot Red Sox made short work of the Bitterroot Bucs, taking a 10-0 win in five innings.

Kalispell and the Bucs meet at 10 a.m. with the winner taking on the Red Sox in the championship game.

Lakers 10, Loggers 0

Miles Arrowsmith drove in three runs for the Lakers and his fifth inning single pushed Kalispell to the run-rule victory.

Liam Rech added a pair of RBIs on a 2-for-2 day, drawing a pair of walks also.

Arrowsmith put the Lakers on the board in the first inning, scoring Tait Orme with an RBI groundout to shortstop.

Kalispell broke the game open with a four-run fourth inning, capped off by a Rech single to left that scored Fischer Lee.

The Lakers loaded the bases in the fifth, plating two on walks before Arrowsmith singled to right, sending Beau Schultz home to make it 10-0.

On the mound, Lewis fanned five batters and allowed one walk and two hit batters.

Boe Miles went 4 1-3 innings for the Loggers, scattering six hits.

Libby finished the season 16-34.

Red Sox 10, Bucs 0

Reese Earp went 3-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs, including one on the walk-off single in the fifth inning for the Red Sox.

Boedy Tadvick doubled, scoring Cash Lawrence to give the Red Sox a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Two batters later, Jude Widmer made it 4-0 with an RBI single to right. Widmer finished with two RBIs on the day.

Earp’s first single scored Lawrence in the fifth to put the Red Sox ahead 5-0, sparking another four-run inning. He capped off the game in the fifth with another single to center field scoring Jackson Lubke.

Lawrence threw five innings on the mound, striking out five and allowing two hits. The game ended after five innings due to the run rule.

Drew Wagner and Isaiah Testerman picked up the hits for the Bucs.

Lakers 4, Mavericks 2, loser out

Wyatt Sharp reached on an error as Dillon Wink and Arrowsmith came home and sparked a four-run fourth inning for the Lakers.

Schultz drew a bases-loaded walk and Liam Rech hit a sacrifice fly during the frame to put the Lakers ahead 4-1.

Ethan Paugh’s first inning double put Missoula ahead 1-0 in the third and Lincoln Chamberlain closed the gap to 4-2 in the seventh.

On the mound, George Schwann went 6 1-3 innings for Kalispell, allowing one run on four hits and striking out a pair of batters. Jake Hale closed out the game, allowing one run on three hits.

Paugh and Seamus Kane combined for a two-hitter for the Mavericks, but seven walks helped the Lakers’ offense capitalize.

Loggers 16, Bandits 2, loser out

Bransen Holzer and Brody Gilmore each went 3-for-4 as Libby exploded on offense.

Holzer drove in three runs and scored twice, while Gilmore plated one and came home four times.

Holzer started the scoring in the first with an RBI double to left, scoring Aidan Rose. Three more RBI singles saw Libby take a 5-0 lead after one inning.

The offense continued in the fourth as the Loggers put up nine runs, sending 13 batters to the plate. Eight walks and three hit batsmen contributed to the big inning.

Holzer threw five innings for Libby, allowing two runs on two hits. He fanned two. The game ended after five innings due to the run rule.

Michael Clark and Hunter Willard picked up the lone hits for Cranbrook.
