The high-jumping Connecticut Sun already know a little something about “Defying Gravity,” so it’s not strange to see the basketball team holding a “Wicked” night Aug. 1 at Mohegan Sun Arena.
Christine Dwyer, a 2007 graduate of the musical theater program at the University of Hartford’s Hartt School who appeared both on Broadway and on national tours of “Wicked,” will perform the national anthem that night.
One of the fans in the arena that night will win tickets to see “Wicked” in New York City, as well as a limo ride from Mohegan Sun to Broadway.
The free item for attendees of the games will be friendship bracelets, in pink and green to remind them of the “Wicked” characters Galinda and Elphaba.
At halftime, an artist will create a “Wicked”-themed work live.

Besides “Wicked,” Dwyer has appeared in Connecticut in several other shows. She co-starred in the national tours of “Finding Neverland” and “Waitress,” both of which played The Bushnell in Hartford, and last year appeared in the world premiere of Scottish songwriter Johnny Reid’s musical “Maggie.”
The Connecticut Sun’s opponents on the “Wicked” night are the New York Liberty. The game is Aug. 1 at 7:30 p.m. at Mohegan Sun Arena, 1 Mohegan Sun Blvd., Uncasville. Tickets are $19.38-$147.55.
