Sometimes one man’s bad news is another man’s good news.
With veteran and lead receiver Terry McLaurin feeling disrespected, he is holding out of Washington Commanders‘ training camp. In addition, Noah Brown is now returning to the field, following his rehab from an injury earlier in the year’s mini-camp, which understandably scared Brown and Commanders fans. Thus, there are several receivers who, by necessity, are receiving (pun intended) much more work and much more focused reps as training camp began last week.
Here are those receivers vying for more opportunities:
Noah Brown
After being released late by the Texans in 2024, signed with the Commanders and had an immediate impact. His kidney injury, ended his 2024 season. He could receive much more focus as long as McLaurin continues his disappointing holdout.
Deebo Samuel
Samuel is here on one-year deal, is age 29, and was drafted prior to McLaurin in the 2019 draft. Last year he collected 51 receptions for 670 yards, while rushing for 136 yards.
Ja’Corey Brooks
Brooks is a big 6-3, 195-pound undrafted rookie out of Louisville, who also played at Alabama. He can play and exhibited ball skills with 61 receptions for 1,013 yards and nine touchdowns in his final college season.
Michael Gallup
Gallup is an NFL veteran of six seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, resulting in 266 receptions, including 21 receiving touchdowns. He is age 29 and has averaged 14.1 yards per reception.
Jaylin Lane
Lane is the rookie from Virginia Tech that the Commanders hope can be their deep threat; they lost their previous deep threat when Dyami Brown left via free agency. They are also hoping he can bring results as their next primary punt returner. The Commanders did not re-sign Jamison Crowder, who has yet to sign with an NFL team.
Luke McCaffrey
McCaffrey enters his second year in the NFL and fourth year playing receiver, after playing quarterback at Nebraska and Rice before making the position transfer. Younger brother of Christian, Luke caught 18 passes, averaging 9.3 per reception in 2024.
Chris Moore
Moore is a veteran at 32 years old and has seen action in regular-season games with the Ravens, Texans, Titans, Cardinals, and Commanders.
K.J. Osborn
Osborn, age 28, has played in NFL games for the Vikings, Patriots, and Commanders.
Jacoby Jones
Jones is a 6-3, 228-pound rookie receiver from UCF, and had the nickname “DK” among his teammates, referencing DK Metcalf.
Michael Strachan
Strachan is 27 years old and has six career receptions, having played for the Colts and Panthers.
Tay Martin
Martin is 27 years old and was with the 49ers (2022-23) and Titans (2024). He is also 6-3, weighing 186 pounds, and played his college ball at Washington State and Oklahoma State.
