Tragedy struck the sports entertainment and wrestling community on Thursday when it was announced that longtime professional wrestler and WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan passed away at his home in Clearwater, Florida, at the age of 71.

Hogan was the face of the wrestling industry for decades, bursting onto the scene in 1979 when the organization was still known as the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). He spent over a decade with the company before departing for WCW, where he further cemented his legacy as a global icon.

After becoming one of the most legendary figures in the history of the sport, Hogan returned to WWE in 2002—coinciding with the company’s rebranding from WWF to World Wrestling Entertainment. In 2005, he was officially inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

To this day, Hogan remains one of the most decorated and recognizable performers the sport has ever seen, with his iconic persona, charisma, and larger-than-life presence resonating across generations of fans.

Following the devastating news, WWE issued a statement honoring the wrestling legend:

“WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away,” the company wrote on social media. “One of pop culture’s most recognizable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s. WWE extends its condolences to Hogan’s family, friends, and fans.”

Fans also reacted to the sad news:

“RIP Hulkster. We’re saying our prayers, taking our vitamins and throwing a leg drop today,” a fan wrote.

Someone else added, “Rest peacefully brother.”

Another person said, “Despite how ya’ll feel. Without Hogan, there is no WWE.”

“How you feel about him personally aside, you can’t deny he forever changed professional wrestling. RIP,” one more fan commented.
