WNBA Legend Lisa Leslie Names the Fever's Most Underrated Player Without Hesitation

Very few people out there, if any, will argue against the notion that Caitlin Clark is the best player on the Indiana Fever roster. The fact that they have been struggling amid her most recent injury spell — Indiana has lost two straight games with Clark sidelined with a groin issue — is a testament to this notion.

There’s no denying, however, that Clark can’t do it all on her own. This is exactly why the Fever’s front office has built the roster around her as it looks to compete for a championship in the immediate future.

One of the key pieces for Indiana is veteran guard Kelsey Mitchell, who was the Fever’s first overall pick back in 2018. Mitchell has been a driving force for Indiana even before Clark entered the picture. However, it’s only upon Clark’s arrival that Mitchell’s popularity reached new heights.

Be that as it may, WNBA legend Lisa Leslie is adamant that Mitchell remains the most underrated player on the squad.

“Kelsey Mitchell, even though she’s on you guys’ team — you guys have this biggest spotlight — she’s still the most underrated player,” Leslie said in a recent episode of her podcast, “Between the Lines.”

Leslie is one of the greatest to ever do it, and she’s been around the game long enough to recognize elite talent. For the Hall of Famer to have such high praise for Mitchell certainly says a lot.

Indiana Fever Guard Lexie Hull Doubles Down on Lisa Leslie’s Claim

Leslie made her statement during an interview with one of Mitchell’s Fever teammates, Lexie Hull. The 6-foot-1 guard has been playing alongside Mitchell in Indiana for four years now, and Hull has made her opinion of her veteran teammate crystal clear.

“I agree,” Hull told Leslie. “She is one of the most athletic, quickest players I’ve ever seen. The way she can move through a line of people and still get to the rim and still get a shot off, it’s impressive.

“I think she deserves her flowers. People deserve to know how incredible she is. She’s been here for years, and I’m so happy that people are coming to watch and support her now.”

Mitchell’s current deal with the Fever will end at the conclusion of the 2025 campaign. She signed a one-year extension during the offseason worth $249,244. Whether or not Mitchell will remain in Indiana beyond 2025 remains to be seen.
