David Alaba is facing a decisive season in his career. The Real Madrid defender has been bogged down by constant physical issues, which started all the way back in December 2023, when he suffered an ACL rupture.
Upon returning in January this year, the veteran was far below his best and sustained another injury setback towards the end of the season. A return was expected at the FIFA Club World Cup, but a minor relapse ruled it out as well.
Given his constant injury woes and his high wages, murmurs of a possible departure from Real Madrid have been growing in recent weeks.
Alaba will not leave
However, according to MARCA, Alaba is clear that he will not leave this summer. Instead, the veteran star has decided to give everything he has in order to change his current situation.
Indeed, the Austrian international is not willing to settle for a secondary role or a quiet exit: he wants to say farewell to the club in the right way, leaving a positive impression.
As such, Alaba is working at full capacity to be in top condition for the start of pre-season. He has surrounded himself with a team of professionals who are attending to every detail: from nutrition to rest, as well as physical training and mental strength.
The defender’s goal is clear: to leave behind the ordeal of injuries that have limited him and to feel like a footballer again.

The key date on Alaba’s calendar is 4 August, the day Real Madrid resumes training. The Austrian wants to be back with the group after overcoming the soleus injury he suffered during the last Club World Cup.
Alaba’s contract runs until 30 June 2026, and as of now, there are no open talks regarding a renewal.
Within the club, some believe that his time has come to an end. For now, There are no offers for him and, more importantly, he does not want to leave Real Madrid like this.
Alaba’s desire is clear: to compete, to perform, and, if the time comes, to say goodbye as he deserves – on the pitch and with a role of significance.
For now, a contract renewal is not a priority for him. He understands why everything is on hold in that regard and why the club may be considering his departure. But Alaba is focusing solely on regaining his form and playing regularly again.
The arrival of Xabi Alonso on the Real Madrid bench has also given him a mental boost. The two have spoken, and Alaba knows he can be an important player in the new system.
All of this, however, depends on finding full physical fitness. And Alaba is not giving up.
