Ravens camp takes a turn as reunion whispers swell into much louder suggestions

Jaire Alexander’s seatbelt celebration seems to be spreading. Now, Nate Wiggins is doing it with him. The Baltimore Ravens‘ social media team has been active. Welcome to another edition of training camp. Tyler Loop connected on a 63-yard field goal. That’s nice to see as July nears its close. Then, there are the rumors.

Come on! What’s a good training camp without some fresh rumors (or restated versions)?

One you have heard before. This Jadeveon Clowney thing isn’t going away, friends. He still hasn’t found his home yet, and many consider Baltimore a likely destination.

The most recent mention comes from a friend of this publication. USA Today’s Cory Woodruff of For The Win believes Clowney’s return isn’t a matter of ‘if’. He thinks it’s a matter of ‘when’.

“The Ravens adding Clowney as a mercenary rusher at this point in the season would be such a Ravens move. Clowney has played there before, and we like the idea of a reunion for both sides quite a bit.”

Clowney isn’t just ‘a mercenary’. He’s one of ‘THE mercenaries’. He’s the guy no team wants to hire for a long-term role, but they’ll certainly pick him up if they’re in a pinch and need a pass rusher.

His 2023 season with Baltimore was one of the two most productive of his career. He started 15 of 17 regular-season games. He notched 43 tackles. He tied a career-high in sacks (9.5). He notched another 21 QB hits. That also ties a career-best.

Baltimore hasn’t shown a ton of genuine interest in Clowney, but if he is reacquired, few will complain about adding another piece. Kyle Van Noy and Odafe Oweh are expected to start at the edge. Rookie Mike Green is an underrated pickup from this year’s NFL Draft who is already generating some buzz. Make no mistake, adding the former first overall pick would make an already formidable defense even better.
