Bills Named Among Genuine Super Bowl Challengers originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Make no mistake about it, the Buffalo Bills and Josh Allen in 2025 have to break through in the playoffs.
The Bills have the roster, the coaching staff, and an MVP winner at quarterback, while in a division many think they should run through, but the regular season doesn’t matter – it’s all about the postseason.
Buffalo came close to Kansas City in the AFC Championship game last season but fell short, and now, the franchise is seen as one of the favorites for the Lombardi Trophy.
As such, FS1’s Jason McIntyre, in naming his six true Super Bowl contenders on The Herd, only picked two from the AFC: the Baltimore Ravens and the Bills.
“They’ve been knocking on the door for a few years,” McIntyre said. “Josh Allen, obviously tremendous. They came up a little short in the playoff game in Kansas City. Buffalo had some self-inflicted wounds trying to pull off the tush push repeatedly, and it failed. The Bills did add Joey Bosa, not a bad pickup. Josh Palmer from the Chargers, but they also have a very favorable schedule, and they’ve won the last five AFC East titles.”
The Bills have been considered Super Bowl contenders for the last few seasons, but 2025 feels different. There is an expectation not only for Buffalo to make it to the NFL’s penultimate game, but win it.
It is officially gut-check time in Buffalo with Allen coming off the best season of his career, most of the offense has returned, and the defense, which was seen as a major weakness, has been beefed up through free agency and the draft.
As such, it is very reasonable to ask, if not now for Buffalo, then when?
