The Cleveland Browns still need to clear some space in the quarterback depth chart.
Even if they say they can head into the season with four, it seems unlikely. One of Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel or Shedeur Sanders probably has to go.
Browns writer Mark Sipos has suggested a different separation than most have this offseason. He thinks the Browns should trade away the veteran Flacco and send him to the Las Vegas Raiders.
“Geno Smith is the starter for now, but the depth behind him is thin,” Sipos wrote. “Aidan O’Connell flashed some arm, but his play was inconsistent, and the offense sputtered when he was under center. Flacco would give the Raiders a more stable veteran backup as they shift toward a ground-heavy identity under Chip Kelly and Pete Carroll. With prized rookie Ashton Jeanty expected to be the centerpiece, Flacco could step in and manage the offense without getting in the way of the run game.”

There is a case that O’Connell could be upgraded on. Flacco certainly has more arm strength.
In Cleveland, it’d raise more questions, though. Flacco is the guy that most sort of end up concluding will win the Week 1 starting job. Without him, it’s either Pickett or a rookie.
There’s still plenty of drama yet to come in this QB battle, so it should be a fascinating July and August.
