It has been a disappointing offseason thus far for the Golden State Warriors as they have yet to make a move in free agency to upgrade their roster.

The Warriors entered the offseason looking to bolster their roster around their star trio of Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green, but they have yet to do so.

The only moves Golden State has made thus far came in the second round of the 2025 NBA Draft where they selected Alex Toohey and Will Richard.

Of course, the Warriors are still awaiting a decision by restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga and it appears likely that he will be on the move this offseason with his role in Golden State being a major unknown after he fell out of the rotation last season.

Due to this, Kuminga has been linked to many teams, including the Sacramento Kings and FanSided’s Will Eudy recently proposed a trade that would land the Warriors a “high motor” guard in return for Kuminga.

“If the Golden State Warriors truly have a chance to flip Jonathan Kuminga for Devin Carter and a pair of second-round picks, they should not hesitate for a second,” Eudy wrote. “The Sacramento Kings’ Devin Carter is one guy who may fit that description. He’s a disruptive player who has a high motor, and his shooting continues to improve.”

The Warriors have had a high asking price for Kuminga thus far so it is unlikely that the Warriors would accept a trade of just Carter and two second-round picks, though they may have to if they want to move on from Kuminga.

For Carter, he was the 13th pick in the 2024 draft and he missed the start of last season due to offseason shoulder surgery and he struggled when he returned.

Despite his struggles, Carter is a great defender and a solid scorer who would be a solid fit off the bench behind Curry in Golden State as the Warriors would finally add a much-needed backup point guard.
