Concerning News Emerges on LPGA Star Charley Hull After Collapse on Thursday originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The first round of the Amundi Evian Championship took a turn on Thursday that no one expected. Some players made early statements on the leaderboard, while others faced serious challenges. Ireland’s Leona Maguire impressed with a 6-under 65, highlighted by a hole-in-one on the par-three second hole, putting her in a share of the clubhouse lead.
But the biggest shock of the day came from England’s Charley Hull, who was forced to withdraw after collapsing twice during her round. Hull, the world No. 19, was playing solidly and stood at 1-under through 12 holes before things took a worrying turn. She had just finished playing the third hole when she was seen sitting in a bunker, clearly struggling.
On the fourth tee, she collapsed for the first time. After receiving treatment and taking a 15-minute medical timeout, Hull attempted to continue but collapsed again after her tee shot.
Sky Sports and Golf Channel both reported that Hull had been battling a virus, which is believed to be the cause of her condition. After her second collapse, she was carted off the course and officially withdrew from the tournament.

Despite the scary moments, there was some relief later when a Golf Channel commentator noted that Hull was feeling better and was seen chatting in the player dining area.
The weather at the Evian Resort in France was warm and mostly calm nothing extreme, ruling out weather as a factor in her illness.
Hull has been on a solid run in majors, with back-to-back T-12 finishes at the U.S. Women’s Open and the KPMG Women’s PGA. She was also tied for third at the 2022 Evian. Though still chasing her first major win, she’s come close, finishing second in three of the five major events.
