One of the biggest questions that the Colorado Buffaloes face heading into 2025 is deciding who will come in and replace quarterback Shedeur Sanders after he was taken in the 2025 NFL Draft.

It’s come down to an intense battle between two options in transfer Kaidon Salter, who spent the last four seasons with the Liberty Flames and true freshman Julian Lewis.

Of course, considering these two are duking it out for the starting spot, things could get extremely competitive, but in a video posted to the “DNVR Sports” YouTube channel, Salter revealed what his relationship with Lewis is truly like.

“I’m kind of the older guy in the room… so I guess I’m the vet, but just being there, being there for Juju, I remember when I was a freshman coming in not knowing a lot of the things,” Salter said at the 1:08 mark. “So, I’m able to mentor him and I feel like I’m a great mentor. So, just we we’re just going out and having fun. that’s what football is and that’s what we’re making and we’re keeping it simple and just going out competing, having fun while doing it.”

As of now, though, it’s unclear if either of them currently holds the lead, because on Wednesday, head coach Deion Sanders said, “We brought both of them because I don’t know which one is going to start.”

Salter certainly isn’t a bad option, and in his last four seasons for Liberty has completed 412-of-702 passes for 5,889 yards, 56 touchdowns and 17 interceptions as well as 2,006 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns.

Of course, Lewis doesn’t have any experience at the collegiate level, but his potential is certainly there, as Rivals placed him as a five-star recruit and the No. 3 quarterback in the 2025 recruiting class.

Now, it will remain to be seen who gets the final nod from Sanders for Colorado’s Week 1 matchup against the Georgia Tech Yellowjackets, scheduled for Aug. 29.
