J.J., Kealia Watt donate to local restaurant feeding Texas Hill Country flood responders

As efforts continue to transpire to help those affected in the aftermath of the deadly flooding in Central Texas, several Houston Texans have taken notice.

Future Hall of Fame defensive end and three-time Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt, along with his wife Kealia, have donated $100,000 to a GoFundMe account set up to aid the restaurant Grape Juice, which plans on feeding first responders as they continue their efforts to find survivors in the aftermath of the July 4 flood.

Grape Juice is also feeding victims of the flood, currently making up to 300 sandwiches per hour.

The Texans also donated $500,000 toward helping Hill Country respond amid the natural disaster that has taken the lives of over 80 people. The Dallas Cowboys and Houston Rockets also met the Texans’ donation in efforts to help with the recovery and rescue faster with proper resources.

With the Cowboys, the NFL Foundation, Janice, Hannah, and Cal McNair, the NFL in Texas has pledged a total of $1.5 million to Central Texas communities affected by recent flash flooding.

“We are heartbroken by the loss and damage that our neighbors in the Texas Hill Country have endured,” Janice, Hannah, and Cal McNair said in a statement. “We are especially devastated to hear about the children who are still missing and we are praying they are reunited with their families soon. Our hearts will remain with everyone affected and in addition to our donation, we will continue to support the search, rescue, and recovery efforts in the coming weeks.”

This isn’t the first time the Watts have stepped into action amid tragedy. In 2017, when Hurricane Harvey ripped through Houston and parts of Texas, Watt began the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund and raised over $41 million. To this date, it remains the largest crowdsourced fundraiser in history.

For his contributions and efforts, Watt was named the Walter Payton Man of the Year for the 2017 season.

The Texans return to training camp later this month.
