The 2025 high school baseball season saw Springboro finish as state runner-up for the first time. Lakota West, Indian Hill, Badin and Highlands also made memorable runs to the state tournament.
Now it’s time to recognize the players who starred for their teams this season.

Player of the year
Matt Ponatoski, Moeller: The junior was Ohio co-player of the year in Division I, the Gatorade Player of the Year, the all-city player of the year and Greater Catholic League-South player of the year. The University of Kentucky commit hit .440 with four homers, 38 RBIs, 7 doubles and 28 runs scored while helping the Crusaders to the regional finals.

Devlan Daniel, Indian Hill: The sophomore helped the Braves to a 23-9 record, Cincinnati Hills League championship and the state semifinals. He won the CHL triple crown, leading the league in batting average (.557), home runs (6) and RBIs (43). He pitched to a 3.54 ERA and 47 strikeouts in 31.2 innings. He is ranked the No. 1 player in Ohio and the No. 54 player nationally for the class of 2027, according to Prep Baseball Report.

Elijah Guttman, Cincinnati Country Day: The senior led the Nighthawks to a 15-11 record and the regional semifinals. He hit .410 with 23 RBIs, 11 doubles, two triples, 19 runs scored and 19 stolen bases. On the mound, he was 3-4 with a 0.63 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 44 innings. He didn’t allow a run in his last three starts and threw 6.2 shutout innings with 16 strikeouts against Troy Christian in the district championship game.

Andy Poli, Summit Country Day: He led the Silver Knights to an 18-10 record and a district championship.

Dylan McIntyre, Ryle: The senior was Ninth Region Player of the Year for the Raiders. He hit .361 with three home runs and 19 RBIs. On the mound, he was dominant with a 7-1 record, 0.62 ERA and 84 strikeouts in 56 innings. He threw a perfect game.
Adam Forton, Highlands: The senior led the Bluebirds to the Ninth Region championship and the first round of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association state tournament. He was 7-1 with a 1.59 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 48 innings. When not pitching, he played shortstop and batted .356 with 32 RBIs and 22 runs scored, plus 15 stolen bases.
Coach of the year
Brian Benzinger, Highlands: He led the Bluebirds to a 27-8 record, Ninth Region and 36th District championships, and the first round of the KHSAA state tournament.
