With NBA free agency underway, several teams have made trades and new signings to bolster their rosters, and the Boston Celtics have been a hot topic as they make moves.

Boston has had to make some unfortunate moves while trying to get below the second apron.

They’ve had to move on from multiple pieces that helped get Boston a championship in 2024, including point guard Jrue Holiday and center Kristaps Porzingis.

The moves were driven by financial concerns, as the Celtics were unlikely to afford both players’ contracts next season. Rumors have also swirled around Derrick White, whose four-year, $125.9 million extension is set to begin at the start of the season.

White was able to speak out on the rumors while talking with Chris Forsberg on the Celtics Talk Podcast this week.

“I think every summer is pretty crazy, especially nowadays. But I didn’t feel too worried about anything. My agent and Brad had been talking, and all the other rumors and stuff, I wasn’t really too worried about. I mean, I feel like it’s cool to be wanted by other teams, but I wanted to stay in Boston, and I was glad they wanted to keep me,” the Celtics guard said.

Derrick White came in from a trade with the San Antonio Spurs in February of 2022, and he’s became he huge part in the Celtics success in recent years.

His points per game has improved in every year since joining the team, and he’s been able to reach another gear in the postseason.

White is expected to take on a larger role next season, as Celtics star Jayson Tatum is likely to miss most – if not all – of the 2025-26 campaign with a ruptured Achilles tendon. This has a chance to give White another opportunity at elevating his game.
