Former Alabama Crimson Tide two-year starter Alex Reese is no longer with an NBA franchise.

On Tuesday, the Philadelphia 76ers waived Reese in favor of a Two-Way contract for power forward Dominick Barlow.

An undrafted free agent in 2021, Reese stepped away from basketball until finding a home with the Amicale Steesel of the Luxembourg Basketball League in 2022.

Reese found new basketball life overseas, averaging 23.7 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 1.4 assists for Amicale Steesel. The string of strong performances led to a stint in the G-League with the Rip City Remix, posting 11.5 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.

Three years after departing the Alabama Crimson Tide, Reese finally made his NBA debut, earning two minutes of action with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Alongside one game with OKC, Reese played 14 games with the Philadelphia 76ers, posting 5.3 points per game on 47% shooting.

Reese played a significant role in Alabama’s transition into an SEC powerhouse.

The Alabama native played his first two seasons under head coach Avery Johnson before the bench boss and the program mutually parted ways.

Alabama — with just one March Madness victory in the past decade — opted for a more analytical hierarchy, poaching Nate Oats from the Buffalo Bulls.

Reese remained with the Tide for two years under the tutelage of Oats. During the 2019-20 season, he scored a career-high 8.8 points per game. However, he struggled in his fourth and finally year, scoring just 5.5 points per game on a career-worst 37% from the floor.
