Which second-and third-year players must improve for the Jets in 2025?

The New York Jets are going to be leaning on some younger players in their drive to start a new chapter in 2025 under head coach Aaron Glenn following some recent roster turnover.

Such a comment makes one think of first-year pros. Round 1 offensive lineman will be leaned on, but second-and-third year players will factor in, too.

Which of those players need to step up for the team in 2025?

Here is Jets Wire’s list:

OL Olu Fashanu

The first-round rookie for the Jets in 2024 did not have the best start in New York. That’s mostly because he was not starting as the team wanted to bring him along slowly behind veterans.

Once Fashanu got in the lineup, he did impress, including five-straight starts in the second half of the season.

During that spell, Fashanu earned his best PFF grade of the season in Week 10 against the Arizona Cardinals, a 75.7 overall. In addition, the outlet’s metrics did not grade him lower than a 63.3 mark following that Cardinals outing.

Fashanu did well, but with another rookie in Armand Membou projected to start on the offensive line in 2025, Fashanu needs to mostly improve his consistence .

RB Braelon Allen

New York Jets running back Braelon Allen (0) runs for a touchdown against the Tennessee Titans during their game at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tenn., Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024.

Allen had 334 rushing yards, a 3.6 average, and two touchdowns as a rookie in 17 games played in 2024.

The fourth-round pick’s numbers look worse because once the Jets made changes to the coaching staff on offense, he was not called upon as much.

Glenn has stated this offseason he believes in a running back by “committee” system on offense. If that holds true, Allen will be leaned on and has to be ready.

WR Malachi Corley

New York Jets wide receiver Malachi Corley (14) is shown as he prepares for the game, Thursday, October 31, 2024, in East Rutherford.

Corley was a complete non-factor as a rookie despite the Jets trading up for him in Round 3 of the 2024 draft.

Really Corley can only go up from there, but the Jets have a hole at the No. 2 wide receiver position across from Garrett Wilson. Corley has potential and needs to step up.
