New York Jetsrunning back Breece Hall failed to meet expectations last season. The former Iowa State standout rushed for 876 yards, 118 fewer than his sophomore total (994). Hall also averaged a career-low 4.2 yards per carry, and ceded some backfield work to rookie Braelon Allen.
ESPN recently ranked the top-10 running backs in the NFL. Hall captured elite placement (No. 2) on the list last offseason after an impressive sophomore campaign. This time around, he’s understandably failed to make the list, which polls coaches and scouts around the league.

“He’s been one of the best in the league at points,” an anonymous coordinator said. “I just haven’t felt the same way recently. I know the injuries have been an issue.”
“That’s not all his fault,” a veteran AFC personnel executive added. “He was in a bad offense. Still has good lower-body balance and home run juice.”
“Hall was second behind only the 49ers’ Christian McCaffrey on last year’s list, but took a step back in rushing yards (876), catches (57) and touchdowns (8) as the Aaron Rodgers-led Jets offense failed to ignite,” ESPN added via a separate story. “Hall, 24, could potentially be in for a better season in 2025 though new coach Aaron Glenn appears poised to employ a committee approach.”
Now entering a contract year, Hall desperately needs to enjoy a bounce-back season. Head coach Aaron Glenn watched his Detroit Lions manage an effective backfield last season. Together, he’ll try and replicate the same with his new offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand.
Hall is key to the Jets’ offensive success in 2025.
