The Detroit Tigers won their second game in two outings against the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday as closer Will Vest shut the door on their AL rivals at Comerica Park.

Third baseman Colt Keith was the talk of Tuesday night’s game as he hit his second home run in two outings against the Rays, a go-ahead two-run shot to right field that had fans standing up and taking notice of the 23-year-old Tigers prodigy’s talent.

Following the game, the Tigers made an announcement on Keith illustrating just how far he’s come at the plate in the month of July for manager AJ Hinch’s team.

“Colt Keith has been one of the AL’s best hitters since the start of June, ranking 5th with a .322 batting average and T-8th with a .944 OPS (among hitters with 100 PA),” the Tigers’ PR account wrote after Tuesday night’s game.

The page also shared video of Keith’s impressive home run that ultimately gave Detroit a win over their central Florida based, American League rivals.

The Tigers had six hits on the night as starting pitcher Jack Flaherty silenced his doubters with a 6.1 inning, 7-hit performances while giving up two earned runs and striking out eight Rays batters.

Tommy Kahnle and Tyler Holton continued their recent string of iron man performances as they combined with closer Will Vest to shut the door on any potential Rays comeback efforts.

The Tigers will take on manager Kevin Cash’s team again tomorrow in the Motor City in hopes of sweeping the Rays and inching closer to MLB’s best record ahead of the 2025 All-Star Game.
