Tottenham Hotspur have announced the signing of Kota Takai from Kawasaki Frontale with the player penning a contract until June 2030.

Still just 20, Takai has been a regular for Kawasaki Frontale since 2023 and has scored four goals from defence in 80 appearances for the J-League club.

During his time with Kawasaki Frontale he competed in the AFC Champions League and was named the J-League’s Best Young Player. His performances have earned him a call-up to the senior Japan side where he was participated in his country’s World Cup qualifying campaign.

Takai now becomes Spurs’ third first team signing of the summer window for a fee reported to be worth £5 million following the arrival of Kevin Danso and the permanent transfer of Mathys Tel.
