The Detroit Tigers took on the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night at Comerica Park in downtown Detroit in hopes of improving their league-leading record heading toward July 15’s MLB All-Star Game in Atlanta.
Detroit jumped out to a 2-0 lead on their visitors from Central Florida as Detroit’s hitting lineup offered up support for starting pitcher Keider Montero.
Detroit got hits early from designated hitter Colt Keith, catcher Dillon Dingler and third baseman/outfielder Javy Baez as the latter of the trio, the All-Star starter, thrilled and excited fans with his latest accomplishment on the baseball diamond in downtown Detroit.

Tigers fans became emotional after watching Baez’s big home run, which gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead in a crucial game for their hopes of maintaining the league’s best record headed into the All-Star break.
The homer was the Tigers All-Star’s 10th of the season, a milestone he hasn’t reached since 2022, his first year with Detroit.
“Man, it feels good to hear ‘All-Star’ next to his name again,'” one person said in response to Baez’s homer.
“Seeing Baez succeed brings a tear to my eye,” another fan said.
“Javy BOMB,” another account wrote.
“Loved the shot,” another fan said.
“El Mago! Boom!” another added.
“Oh boy…Javy saw it and he annihilated it!” one fan said, bringing to mind the call by Tigers play-by-play man Jason Benetti.
“Best team in baseball and that park is empty smh,” another fan wrote.
The Tigers took their two-run lead with them into the third inning as Detroit’s position players attempted to add to their early game success vs. the Rays.
