Five Longhorns Among PFF’s Top 50 College Football Players in 2025 originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
There’s no doubt that the Texas Longhorns have one of the most talented rosters in college football this season.
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian has found significant success on the recruiting trail recently, including landing the No. 1 overall class in the country for the 2025 cycle. Sarkisian has also taken advantage of the transfer portal often bringing in immediate contributors at key positions.
The Longhorns are expected to enter the 2025 season ranked one of the top three teams in the nation. The roster is led by several key defensive players and a few inexperienced players on offense.
In PFF’s ranking of the top 50 players in college football for 2025, five Longhorns made the cut. Sophomore edge Colin Simmons is Texas’ highest ranked player on the list at No. 8 overall.
“Simmons’ elite combination of bend and advanced pass-rushing moves is reminiscent of Von Miller,” PFF’s Max Chadwick said.
Texas linebacker Anthony Hill Jr., who many view as the No. 1 player in the country at his position, landed at No. 14 overall. “Hill is a versatile athlete who wears many hats for the Longhorns’ defense and could find his way into the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft,” Chadwick said.
Three other Longhorns appeared on the ranking with safety Michael Taaffe landing at No. 24, cornerback Malik Muhammad at No. 46, and quarterback Arch Manning at No. 50.
Texas will kick off the 2025 season against Ohio State in Columbus on Aug. 30.
