Travis Kelce ‘Knows Where It’s Buried’ When It Comes To One Major Chiefs Expectation originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is coming off a 2024 season that saw him post his lowest yards and touchdown totals since his rookie year, with some thinking the future Hall of Famer no longer has “it.”
Granted, being 35 years old, soon to be 36, there is a natural slowing down that occurs, and given Kelce has been playing at such a high level for so long, any drop-off is noticeable.
Entering the 2025 season, Travis will be fighting off the narrative that he’s past it, and for general manager Brett Veach, he isn’t worried about his tight end.
“We’ve all seen it over the last few years,” Veach said via ESPN. “There are periods throughout the season where you’re like, ‘This might be it.’ But when the games are the most important and the lights are the brightest, he finds it somewhere.”
“The great ones know how to find it. They know where it’s buried, and they know how to access it. And they can’t access it at that age week in and week out, but when they need it, they know how to find it.”
In truth, Kelce will likely be taking a back seat of sorts in the passing game this year, with Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, Marquise Brown, and Juju Smith-Schuster as other weapons for Patrick Mahomes.
Yeah, Kelce will still get his lick of the ice cream, but it won’t be as often, well that’s what the narrative is anyway.
After a poor season by his standards, you can bet Kelce will want to hit the ground running to show the skeptics he still has plenty of juice in the tank.
Veach believes it, and so do we.
Now Travis has to go prove it.
