Condolences Pouring In for Chiefs Owners’ Family Amid Texas Flood originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Kansas Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, his wife Tavia Hunt and their family are mourning after an extended family member fell victim to the devastating Texas floods.
Due to the heavy rains that hit central Texas on Friday, the Guadalupe River in Kerr County overflowed — with water levels rising between 20 to 26 feet — and caused flooding that killed dozens of people, including children.
On Saturday, Tavia Hunt revealed that a “precious little Hunt cousin” was among the victims of the heartbreaking disaster. A New York Times report confirmed that 9-year-old Janie Hunt died in the flooding at Camp Mystic, a private girls-only summer camp located along the south fork of the Guadalupe River.
Janie Hunt was a first-time camper at Camp Mystic and was with six of her cousins, all of whom were reported safe by her grandmother, Margaret Hunt. Janie Hunt was a great-granddaughter of the late oil billionaire William Herbert Hunt, the brother of Clark Hunt’s father.
After Tavia Hunt revealed the Hunts’ tragic loss, fans quickly offered condolences to the family and showed their support for all the grieving families of the flood victims.
“Very sad and tragic, prayers to all, prayers to you and your family for your loss,” a commenter wrote. Another one said, “So sad and so sorry to hear how close to home this hit for you. My prayers are going up.”
A supporter added, “My daughters attended Mystic for 10 years. With my oldest daughter being a counselor for a year. A friend of there’s and her mother are amongst the missing. This is hitting too close to home. I’m so very sorry for your families loss.”
A heartbroken fan further shared, “Beyond devastating…Jesus is near. So so sorry to hear about precious Janie.”
“Oh Tavia, I’m sorry for your family’s loss. Prayed, through tears last night for the list of girls and their families. Thank you for your words of hope,” a follower stated.
“I’m so sorry about the little cousin. What a community & individual horror,” a poster remarked.
