The Los Angeles Dodgers are in the middle of a strong season and have already had multiple players earn a spot on the NL All-Star team. On Sunday afternoon, the Dodgers got another All-Star announcement.
According to Bob Nightengale, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred announced that Clayton Kershaw was his “Special Selections” pick for the NL All-Star team, giving Kershaw his 11th All-Star appearance in his career.

The announcement from Manfred comes less than a week after Kershaw reached 3,000 career strikeouts. After his ninth start of the year, Kershaw has a 4-0 record and a 3.43 ERA, and 32 strikeouts.
He’s only pitched 44.2 innings this season, and has a 1.254 WHIP this season. While he hasn’t had the same production as other pitchers who made the All-Star team, like Dodgers teammate Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the honor is still well-earned.
His selection to the All-Star game was made by Manfred as a “Special Selections” pick. The honor is reserved for players who normally wouldn’t make the All-Star game, but for their career achievements, the commissioner makes an exception.
In 2022, Albert Pujols and Miguel Cabrera made the All-Star game as “Special Selections” in the twilight of their careers. Kershaw now joins the two as Manfred picked All-Stars. It’s a well-earned honor, especially after his long career.
In his 18th season with the Dodgers, and at 37 years old, Kershaw is making his way back to the All-Star game for the first time since 2023. He’s been an incredible pitcher his entire career, and this All-Star nod is in recognition of his career accomplishments.
Kershaw will join his fellow Dodgers teammates on a trip to Atlanta for the 2025 All-Star Game. It’s a well-earned honor after an illustrious career.
