The Philadelphia Phillies have one of the best starting rotations in baseball this season, thanks in large part to Zack Wheeler, Christopher Sanchez, and Ranger Suarez.

For Suarez, this season is a massive one. He’s set to be a free agent after the year. According to MLB insider Bob Nightengale of USA Today, amid Suarez’s incredible 2025 season, he’s set to make a massive payday.

“Phillies Ranger Suarez is having a walk year for the ages.” Nightengale wrote, “… He’s about to be paid.”

The reason behind Nightengale’s comments is clear: Suarez has been dominant in his last ten starts. Over his past ten outings, Suarez has pitched 68.1 innings with a 1.19 ERA, a 0.92 WHIP, and has held opponents to a .195 batting average.

Even with his terrible first start coming off the injured list, where he allowed seven earned runs in 3.2 innings of work against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Suarez has a 1.99 ERA on the season through 12 starts.

After earning his first All-Star nod in 2024, Suarez struggled in the back half of the season due to back issues. He missed the start of 2025 with more back problems, but since returning to the rotation, he’s been incredible.

With plenty of teams in search of starting pitching, Suarez was set to have plenty of interest in free agency. But, after such a dominant start to the year, Suarez is poised to make a massive payday once he hits free agency.

Whether it’s with the Phillies or not, Suarez is heading towards a huge contract in the offseason, especially if he keeps up what he’s been doing so far this season.

The 29-year-old will be 30 at the start of his new deal and will be heading into his ninth MLB season. He’s been in the Major Leagues for a while, but recently has turned into one of the game’s best starters.

His dominance is different from a lot of other starters, as he thrives on location and command over speed. That may scare some teams away, but for those that want Suarez, he’s going to command a huge deal.

Suarez has been one of the best pitchers over the last two seasons and is set to hit free agency. Nightengale believes that Suarez is heading towards a massive new contract in the offseason.
