The Los Angeles Dodgers are the owners of the best record in baseball. As they look to repeat as World Series champions, they could be aggressive at the trade deadline to get even better.
Regardless of how good the Dodgers have been, no team can have enough quality relievers for a postseason run. The Dodgers signed Tanner Scott in the offseason, but that may not stop them from adding another elite arm in the backend of their bullpen. Newsweek’s Tim Crowley suggested the Dodgers could trade for Aroldis Chapman of the Boston Red Sox.
The Red Sox are two games under .500 and three games out of a wild card spot. If they struggle in the coming weeks, they may turn into sellers at the trade deadline.
“The Dodgers remain strong as defending champions, but the bullpen is far from lights out, even after more offseason additions such as Tanner Scott,” wrote Crowley. “Los Angeles marks a bullpen ERA over 4.00 and often lands stars, as Hollywood does. Chapman makes sense as another key reliever for Dave Roberts in an attempt to go back-to-back.”
Scott had a rough stretch of outings, but has seemed to find himself again. He has a 1.35 ERA in his last 13 games and has converted on eight straight saves. Chapman would be an elite set up man for Scott, or even an option to close games.

The 37-year-old has a 1.29 ERA through 38 games this year. He has 15 saves and is having one of the best seasons of his long career. He is a seven-time All-Star, two-time World Series champion and a Mariano Rivera American League Reliever of the Year Award winner. He could be a huge addition for the Dodgers and essentially help them put games away after the seventh inning. A duo of Scott and Chapman would be a nightmare for opposing hitters.
