For most of the 2024 season, the Tennessee Titans‘ defense played at a high level, keeping the team in many games as the offense struggled to find consistency. 

Led by Jeffery Simmons, the defense spent most of the season leading the NFL in yards allowed and was solid despite injuries ravaging their linebackers and secondary.

Heading into 2025, they made some significant changes in hopes of improving their pass rush and run-stopping. While there are still questions about how certain positions will play out in training camp, for the most part, you can envision what defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson is looking at entering his second season. 

Wilson was solid during his first season as a play-caller and should only improve heading into year two with a better understanding of his players and what to expect. But where does he stand in comparison to other defensive coordinators heading into 2025?

Jacob Infante of the Pro Football Network (PFSN) ranked all 32 defensive coordinators, and this is what he had to say about Wilson. 

27) Dennard Wilson, Tennessee Titans

Dennard Wilson is in his second season as the defensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans. It’s still very early in his tenure as a defensive play caller, so a ranking this low is more a result of his unproven status as a defense’s head guy.

Wilson’s Titans finished 22nd in PFSN’s Defense+ rating last year, with a lack of significant pressure and sacks hurting them up front. They allowed the third-most points in the league, though allowing the second-fewest yards in the NFL is a very encouraging sign.

The Titans have spent the offseason adding to their defense and have focused on the pass rush. After moving on from Harold Landry, they added Dre’Mont Jones and drafted Femi Oladejo to not only add some pressure, but to help against the run. 

Those changes, along with the addition of Xavier Woods in the secondary, should allow Wilson to be better positioned heading into the season and improve on his ranking.
