Little League: Lakeland goes 1-1 in Junior League tournament

DUBOIS — The Lakeland Junior League softball team went 1-1 at the Section 1 tournament hosted by DuBois Little League on Tuesday.

Lakeland defeated Corry 9-6 to open the tournament. Nina Brewster struck out 12 in five and a half innings of action with one earned run. Offensively, Jocelyn Jordan was 3-for-3 with a double and a triple. Tessa Seeley and Naia Harrington each had two hits as well.

In the second game, DuBois beat Lakeland 13-8. Brewster was 3-for-3 and Harrington added two hits. Jordan scored two runs.

Lakeland will play Corry today in the loser’s bracket. The winner of that game will need to beat DuBois twice to claim the tournament title.

Cambridge/Mid-East wins big

The Cambridge Springs/Mid-East Little League baseball team beat Lakeland 16-1 on Tuesday.

Tye Beck had a home run and three RBIs in the win. Sawyer Prenatt had two hits. Cameron Tomasik, Beck, Prenatt, Hunter Bradick, Camden Zedarko and Hudson Lipps each scored two runs.

On the mound, Carter Troutman had three strikeouts.

Cambridge/Mid-East will play the loser of Cochranton and Meadville/Saegertown today in the second round of the loser’s bracket.

Titusville wins section game 3-2

Titusville’s majors won their first game in sections with a come from behind 3-2 victory against F.L.A.G. Tuesday in St. Mary’s.

Harper Wolfkiel got the win, only giving up three hits while walking four and striking out nine. She also pitched her way out of a bases loaded jam in the fifth inning.

They were down 2-0 when they tied it up in the bottom of the fourth when Capri Warner drilled a ball down third base line, scoring Hanna Ringer. Warner then stole her way to third before Madelyn Wice knocked her home. Tied in the bottom of the sixth, Mary Lesko scored the walk-off run on an RBI hit by Layla Greathouse.

They will now take on St. Mary’s tomorrow night at 6 p.m. in St. Mary’s in the semi-finals.
