Alabama Crimson Tide starting quarterback Ty Simpson has played in 16 games over three years, but he has a chance to lead his team in 2025.

Simpson was named the starter following spring practice and has done his waiting as a backup. Simpson recently attended the Manning Passing Academy, and QB Country Nashville Scout Thomas Morris shared with On3’s Charlie Potter how the Alabama quarterback performed.

Morris said Simpson had one of the best arms at the event in terms of arm talent.

Simpson spoke about the event, stating it was something on his bucket list. He also shared what the team was missing from last season following a 9-4 finish.

“I would say Ty had one of the top arms there, just strictly on arm talent,” Morris said. “I think Ty’s got first-round arm talent. He stands out in those types of situations, just because he’s so talented throwing the football, and I thought each day he got better and better and better. By the third day, I thought he had his best day of the whole entire camp and really, really impressed a lot of people.”

Last season, Simpson played in six games, throwing for 179 passing yards. He has yet to throw a passing touchdown for the Crimson Tide, but now has a great chance to as the starter under center.

Simpson was a former five-star prospect in the 2022 class out of Martin, Tennessee. He was the No. 2 quarterback in the On3 Industry Rankings for his class.

The gunslinger will lead Alabama in its season opener versus the Florida State Seminoles on August 30. Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
