Report: Clippers 'Weighing' a Move for Chris Paul

Report: Clippers ‘Weighing’ a Move for Chris Paul originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

With James Harden’s contract extension taken care of, the Los Angeles Clippers can finally shift their focus to shaping the rest of their roster.

One of their moves to round out the roster could feature a notable reunion.

Former Clippers point guard Chris Paul has stated that he wants to be closer to home next season. His family lives in Los Angeles.

That made the Clippers a logical destination.

Now it seems they are also interested in bringing Paul closer to home.

According to NBA insiders Marc Stein and Jake Fischer, the Clippers are “weighing” a move for the San Antonio Spurs guard.

Paul had a prolific run with the Clippers in the middle of his career. He spent six years with the team after being traded to LA during the 2011 offseason.

In his six seasons with the Clippers, Paul averaged 18.8 points, 9.8 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per game and racked up individual accolades.

He earned a spot in the All-Star Game and was named to an All-NBA team in each of his first five seasons with the team. He was named to the All-Defensive team in all six seasons. He also got as high as third in the MVP voting.

Paul isn’t quite at that level anymore. He scored 8.8 points per game last season while dishing out 7.4 assists for the Spurs. The 28 minutes per game he played in San Antonio were the second-least of his career.

However, he would still be a really good fit for the Clippers.

He wouldn’t give the Clippers the backcourt mate they need for Harden in the starting lineup,  but they badly lacked depth during the 2024-25 season and need somebody who can create when Harden comes off the floor.

It’s not a move that would move the Clippers into contention, but Paul could be a nice piece for them for however long he wants to continue playing in the NBA.
