Sophie Cunningham Shares Lively Response to Lexie Hull in New Post originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
One of the reasons people considered the Indiana Fever legitimate contenders for the WNBA championship coming into this season was the offseason additions they made.
One of those additions is guard Sophie Cunningham, who came to Indiana in a huge 10-team trade back in February. While she has struggled with her shooting so far this year, she made sure to provide intensity and competitiveness through rebounding and steals averaging 4.1 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game this season.
Guard Lexie Hull, who is in her fourth season with Indiana, shared a multi-slide post on Instagram, and Cunningham reacted to the last slide, which shows Hull getting hit in the head with a basketball during a recent game.
“the last slide ππππ I canβt stop laughing fr,” Cunningham wrote.
Cunningham previously spent six seasons with the Phoenix Mercury after they took her with the No. 13 pick in the 2019 draft. She developed into a good 3-point shooter and a reliable ball-handler, and she played a key role in their run to the 2021 WNBA Finals.
During a recent game, when Caitlin Clark was hit in the eye by Connecticut Sun guard Jacy Sheldon, Cunningham reacted by shoving Sheldon to the ground. That decision seemed to establish her as an enforcer for the young Fever.
Hull is an outstanding 3-point shooter in her own right and has made 50% of her attempts from that distance so far this season. She is averaging 8.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.3 steals a game this year.
The Fever have an 8-8 record, and even though Clark has been in and out of the lineup lately due to multiple injuries, they have won six of their last 10 games.
