The Chicago White Sox aren’t making the playoffs in 2025. They’re playing for the future.

One of the biggest pieces they have that could build toward that light at the end of the tunnel is outfielder Luis Robert Jr. The 27-year-old outfielder is largely considered the No. 1 postion-player candidate to move at the trade deadline this summer.

While Robert’s move is still likely, it’s in a bit of jeopardy as of Sunday.

The White Sox placed Robert on the 10-day injured list Sunday, retroactive to Thursday, will a left hamstring strain. He last played Wednesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks before leaving the game in the bottom of the first inning after slowing up on a flyball off the bat of Lourdes Gurriel Jr. in the top of the inning.

A former All-Star who finished 12th in American League Most Valuable Player voting in 2022, Robert has largely struggled in 2025. He’s hit for just a .585 OPS, a career low by more than 150 points over his six MLB seasons. Robert still ranks second in the AL with 22 stolen bases and ranks 14th in baseball in fielding run value for centerfielders.

Chicago’s struggles have marked Robert for the trading block since last year. The team owes him the rest of his $15 million deal this season and carries two club options worth $20 million apiece for 2026 and 2027.

The White Sox did not immediately make a corresponding minor-league move. Twelve-year veternal Michael A. Taylor has started every game in centerfield this season that Robert has not and is expected to continue as a regular there in Robert’s absence.
